15 newspaper articles appeared promoting NOVA during August. Each spoke to the achievements, skills and abilities of our jobseekers, all of whom have a disability.
Around about 3 people every day transitioned from welfare recipient to become instead, colleague and taxpayer.
Meaningful employment (yes, that’s another swing at the minimum hour positions that blight disability employment service) in the widest possible range of jobs, transforming the outlook and opportunities for each new worker.
September
NOVA’s latest advertising campaign kicks off on Monday.
No pictures seeking pity, no stories in search of charity. Instead you will see success, achievement and opportunity.
The successes of people, with sometimes very significant barriers, achieving employment - individuals whose determination to gain work has simply rolled over obstacles.
We will introduce the Sydney public to employers who in wisdom look past the obvious and see opportunities.
We will promote candidates whose eagerness to participate and prove they have what it takes to hold down jobs regardless of the level of responsibility or range of tasks.
As we focus on ability you will hear, see and read about success. You will not be able to escape September without getting a very clear picture that far from being burdens of charity or objects of pity, people with disability ‘lose’ that disability as they demonstrate their skills.
How will we do achieve our goals?
Television and radio – every station worth listening to will carry our messages, showcasing employers who could not be happier with the staff they have chosen
Newspaper articles
The Focusonability film awards
A special 1 hr documentary on SBS
Billboards on major highways
1m ‘specials’ &
The combined efforts of 50 highly skilled and motivated marketing specialists.
Finally, we will call upon our ‘secret weapon’ – the drive, determination and willingness of our job seekers to promote themselves as terrific candidates simply looking for a chance to prove their worth.
That said, success is not inevitable, we need the support, encouragement and involvement of the community – helping us identify and chase vacancies and potential work opportunities.
In expectation and appreciation of that help – thank you.
*Incidentally comrades in the Commonwealth, how about joining us in promoting disability employment, award wages, identical conditions and the value of job seekers with disability? Either that or give me the tools and get out the way,

More than Money!
If asked, most of us would say we went to work for the money, to pay our bills or support our family.
