Consider this (lifted from their site):
Myth #3: Mentally ill and mentally restored employees (that is, those in whom mental illness is effectively treated) tend to be second-rate workers.
The Facts: Far from being inferior workers, individuals with mental illnesses may in fact be superior in many ways to their co-workers without mental illness. Employers who have hired these individuals report that their attendance and punctuality exceed the norm, and that their motivation, work quality, and job tenure is as good as -- or better than -- that of other employees. Research has shown that there is no difference between the productivity of workers with and without mental illness.
I have not heard the term 'mentally restored' before and I don't think I mind it.
Do you know that 1:5 Australians will experience mental illness?
That means either you or somebody close to you is pretty much guaranteed to experience the effects of mental illness.
They can (and most probably will) be 'restored'.
And there's the opportunity!
People that experience mental illness can also make darn good workers (I know) and as employers we have an obligation to consider every possible way to improve our productivity and profitability.
We need to be advocating for employers to consider everyone on the basis of their skill and abilities. Let's get these folk decent jobs before we fret about bringing in people from overseas.
I've been thinking a lot about how we might get more people with a disability into employment (see last post about failures of present approach) and I think I have an idea.

Today marks the first day of a new Disability Employment Service (DES) contract.
There are new players and new rules....
'It's nice to be busy' and 'busy is better than idle' and all of my mum's other sayings about work being good for you, and all of them said; we're drowning!
The administrative burden of a new Disability Employment Service contract (starts July 1st) and the mountains of paperwork required for an NDIS dollar (approximately 10X that of the former TTW program) has seen us add 3 extra staff to the admin team and we are still receiving a large volume of enquiries that are causing us some time delay in getting back to folk....
